RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) – an exciting Rotary programme of outward bound leadership camps hosted in the nearby Franschhoek mountains. This past year Stellenbosch Rotary Club has sent over 25 potential future leaders identified from 6 local schools to the RYLA camps which are held every 6 months.
Each and every participant has come back saying this camp programme has changed their lives, opened their eyes to their own abilities and given them the courage to strive harder and higher. The camp includes everything from abseiling to canoeing and hiking and the group work on team skills ensuring that participants learn their own values and abilities and most importantly how to work with others and look at life from a variety of views.
We are extremely proud to announce that due to the tremendous support and leadership provided by Stellenbosch Rotaractors at these camps, Stellenbosch Rotaract and Stellenbosch Rotary club have been offered the management role and responsibilities for all future District RYLA camps as from 2010. We are looking forward to this great challenge and ensuring that we continue to provide these incredible leadership training opportunities for students from all around the Western Cape.
